PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between perceived corporate social responsibility (PCSR) and perceived organizational corruption (POC) in a developing country context. The research suggests mediating roles of perceived ethical leadership (PEL) and job satisfaction (JS) in the PCSR–POC relationship.Design/methodology/approachData were collected through survey questionnaires. The sample consisted of 434 employees working in private and public organizations in Kosovo. Regression analysis was conducted by using a serial mediation model.FindingsApplying a social learning framework, this study provides evidence that employees' perceptions of corporate social responsibility (CSR) are positively related to perceived ethical leadership and job satisfaction and negatively related to perceived organizational corruption. Furthermore, results confirm that the relationship between CSR perception and organizational corruption perception is mediated by ethical leadership perception and job satisfaction.Practical implicationsArmed with the findings, organizations can adopt CSR practices to positively influence employee behaviors and attitudes. From these results, it is possible to better comprehend the role of CSR in dealing with relevant aspects such as corruption at the organizational level, especially in developing and emerging markets.Social implicationsThe findings of this research indicate that employees in socially responsible organizations perceive less organizational corruption. Adopting a more ethical and responsible management approach might represent a promising solution to fight the corruption phenomenon inside and even outside organizations. These results should serve as reflection for both managers and public authorities.Originality/valueWith regard to CSR, previous studies have investigated different employee outcomes but never considered the potential impact on corruption at the organizational level. Furthermore, this study extends the literature by conceptualizing perceived ethical leadership and job satisfaction as mediators between perceived CSR and organizational corruption perception, in a developing country context where the concept of CSR is still less investigated.
Online reviews provide increasingly important sources of information for different types of consumer decisions. The gaining popularity of online reviews in the realm of health services implies the need for a better understanding of their role in informed patient decision-making processes. This paper reports a qualitative study that investigates which textual and content elements are related to the perceived usefulness of online reviews for doctors (general practitioners). We investigated 234 online reviews and applied decision tree analysis to find patterns. The findings indicate that readers of online reviews for general practitioners are concerned with the whole content of the review and do not solely look at the valence or rating of a review. Furthermore, it was found that reviews with a more narrative or experiential style were overall perceived as more useful than more fact based or very short reviews.
Der vorliegende Band "Wirtschaftsethische Perspektiven VI" enthält die überarbeiteten Beiträge des Großteils der Vorträge, die während zweier Sitzungen des Ausschusses "Wirtschaftswissenschaften und Ethik" im Verein für Socialpolitik in Regensburg (2000) und in Hamburg (2001) gehalten worden sind. In diesem Ausschuss, dem Wirtschaftswissenschaftler, Philosophen und Theologen der beiden großen christlichen Kirchen angehören, werden seit vielen Jahren sowohl theoretische wie auch praktische Problemstellungen der Wirtschafts- und Unternehmensethik aus den verschiedenen Blickwinkeln heraus interdisziplinär diskutiert. Die Ergebnisse der vorangegangenen Diskussionen sind in den "Wirtschaftsethischen Perspektiven I-V" dokumentiert. -- Die Beiträge des neuesten Bandes der "Wirtschaftsethischen Perspektiven" enthalten mit Themen zu "Korruption, Bestechung und Strafe" einen ersten Schwerpunkt. Probleme der Steuer- und Verteilungsgerechtigkeit werden sodann aus der Sicht der Finanzwissenschaft und der katholischen Soziallehre diskutiert. Einen weiteren Schwerpunkt bilden Abhandlungen über wichtige Fragen der Umweltethik. Wie weit darüber hinaus das Spektrum der im Ausschuss diskutierten Problemfelder ist, zeigen die Beiträge zu den Wurzeln des Besitzindividualismus, die bereits in der Spätscholastik zu finden sind, zur Frage nach einer Verbesserung der Marktchancen der Katholischen Kirche durch ein identitätsorientiertes Kirchenmarketing und zum Spannungsfeld zwischen Individual- und Institutionenethik, das unter dem zentralen Gesichtspunkt der Abwanderungskosten analysiert wird. -- Alle Beiträge haben ein ausschussinternes Gutachterverfahren durchlaufen
